Razer confirmed several months ago that it’s working on a smartphone. Rumors had already picked up after the company acquired Nextbit. It hasn’t revealed much about the device, though the company’s CEO recently gave a cheeky look at the device. According to a new report, Razer’s first smartphone might feature a whopping 8GB of RAM.
Razer officially confirmed yesterday that it’s going to announce a new product on November 1st. While it didn’t say the product is going to be a smartphone, the teaser that it sends out sends a subtle hint that its first smartphone will be unveiled at this event.
A listing has been spotted on GFXBench for the “Razer Phone” which lists some details about the specifications that this handset might possibly have. According to the listing, the handset will feature a 5.7 inch 2560 x 1440 resolution display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, and 64GB of storage.
It may also feature a 12-megapixel rear and 8-megapixel front camera. The specs are what you’d expect from a flagship device in 2017 but there’s one detail that catches the eye. The listing mentions that this device will have 8GB of RAM.
This is unusual since most flagship smartphones haven’t gone beyond 4GB of RAM, only some offer 6GB of RAM. Reports suggest that Razer’s smartphone will be geared towards gamers and if that’s true, more RAM is certainly going to help with that.
However, more RAM doesn’t necessarily translate into better performance, it really depends on how well the entire device has been optimized and that we’ll only know when Razer’s first smartphone is launched.
